Birchwood Road, SE London
Interior Decoration · Driveway & Gating · Garden Landscaping · Bespoke Sourcing
A detached family home in SE London. The brief was broad — five distinct areas of the property, each requiring a different set of skills, suppliers, and tradespeople. Our role was to coordinate every element, manage every relationship, and deliver a finished result that felt considered and cohesive throughout.
The Lounge
The starting point was the main reception room. Plain walls, no character, no depth. The decision was made to commit to Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue — a rich, confident slate that rewards natural light and transforms completely under artificial lighting in the evening. Cornicing was retained and finished in white to frame the colour properly. Solid wood shutters installed for light control. The result is a room that feels both dramatic and calm. Exactly what the brief asked for.
The Bedrooms
In two of the children's rooms, feature wallpapers were selected — both sourced from the high street, both hung by hand to a professional standard. The lesson here is one we return to often: the quality of the finish matters more than the price of the material. Carefully selected, expertly hung wallpaper outperforms expensive products poorly applied every time. Wood shutters added to light control and privacy.
The Driveway & Gated Entrance
The front of the property needed to match the ambition of the interior. A full permeable block paving driveway was laid extended- requiring material sourcing matching the original. Wrought iron gates were installed at the entrance, set between brick pillars with external lighting. The property now arrives before you do. Kerb appeal done properly.
The Marble Dining Table
This was the detail that required the most coordination — and produced the most striking result. The brief was simple: a marble dining table, bespoke dimensions, sourced and placed. The marble slab was selected and cut to size at a specialist stone supplier in Bromley. The base — polished chrome, architectural in proportion — was sourced separately through a supplier in North London. The two were married together on site. The result sits in the kitchen against large format floor tiles and looks, frankly, like it belongs in a design showroom.
The Garden
The rear garden was addressed in two phases. First, a dedicated children's play area was created — rubber crumb safety surface, timber climbing frame, enclosed and considered. Later, the wider garden was landscaped: levelled, bordered with solid timber sleepers, lit, and laid to turf. A garden that works for a family and looks like it has been properly designed.
